Hamilton Bid for 2030 Commonwealth Games Falls Apart

The City of Hamilton will not be hosting the Commonwealth Games in 2030.

Private bidders were not able to secure the province’s support on its proposal for the games, which would come with a $1.1-billion price tag, according to Commonwealth Sport Canada.

The group that launched the bid, Hamilton 100, was given a deadline extension to shore up support for the games, but it passed on Monday.

They say they remain open to reviving the bid should provincial support come at a later date.

The 2030 Commonwealth Games will be the centennial anniversary of the event, which was held for the fist in in Hamilton in 1930.
