Hamilton Bus Drivers on Strike

Hamilton transit workers have walked off the job.

The approximately 880 workers with the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 107 were in a legal strike position as of midnight.

The two sides resumed negotiations on Tuesday, but the union said it was clear that the City wasn’t interested in further discussions.

”The lack of interest in keeping this city moving was clearly demonstrated by HSR and City Council,” said Erik Tuck, President of Local 107, have Tuesday’s meetings.

ATU International President John Costa also expressed frustration over the City’s response and failure to recognize front-line transit professionals in collective bargaining.

”They called us heroes during the pandemic and now have zero interest in delivering fair compensation to public transit workers,” said Costa.
