Ontario Installs 30th Lieutenant Governor
Ontario has a new Lieutenant Governor.
Edith Dumont was sworn in today at the Ontario legislature, the 30th person to take on the role, and the first ever Francophone to do so.
In a statement today, Premier Doug Ford congratulated Dumont, noting that as the representative of The King in Ontario, ‘’the Lieutenant Governor plays a key role in our system of government, upholding our constitutional framework and promoting our collective history, culture and achievements in Ontario, Canada and the world.’’
Dumont, a respected educator, was the first woman to lead the Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario, an eastern Ontario school board, where she worked for 30 years.
Recently, she has served as vice-president of partnerships, communities and international relations at the Université de l’Ontario français in Toronto.
Former Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell was in attendance as she stepped down from the role she held since 2014.
