Bell to Cut Nearly 9 Percent of Workforce and Sell Dozens of Radio Stations
The parent company of Bell Media has announced it is cutting nine percent of its workforce and selling off dozens of radio stations.
In a release, the company said it is in the midst of a digital transformation of news and entertainment.
It is selling 45 of its 103 radio stations and also selling off more than 100 The Source stores.
As part of the, JOY Radio’s parent company, Whiteoaks Communications Group, was announced as purchasing four legacy stations covering Hamilton, St. Catharines and Niagara region: CKTB, CHTZ-FM, CHRE-FM, and CKLH-FM, subject to CRTC review.
Whiteoaks traces its roots back to 1956 when founders Howard and Jean Caine started CHWO Radio Limited in Oakville after meeting while working for CKOC in Hamilton. The company remains family-owned today with their son Michael Caine as CEO, who obtained CRTC approval to create CJYE, JOY Radio, in 2001 as Southern Ontario’s first full-time Christian radio station.
With a legacy deeply rooted in broadcasting, Whiteoaks says it is committed to community-focused business and expanding its reach for JOY Radio to even more people.
JOY Radio is owned and operated by Trafalgar Broadcasting Limited under parent company Whiteoaks Communications Group Limited.
