A Day To Listen

In recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30th, JOY Radio is proud to partner with the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund for A Day to Listen 2024. This year’s theme is All My Relations; which refers to how we are all interconnected.

Listen Monday September 30th at 1:00pm and throughout the day, as we amplify Indigenous voices with the stories of Knowledge Keepers, doctors, artists, athletes, and so many more.

Hollie Taylor and James Kurtis will also be sharing stories and interviews from Indigenous voices during ‘The Drive’ (5:30-8a) and ‘Good Company’ (4:30-6p).

A Day to Listen is brought to you in part by the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund, an Indigenous-led charity that is moving reconciliation forward. This year, through the Legacy Schools program, they sent tools and resources to over 8,400 educators from coast to coast to coast to help them teach not only the true history of Canada, but also the richness, strength, and diversity of Indigenous cultures. The first A Day to Listen took place on June 30, 2021, following the public announcement that the remains of 215 children were buried at the site of the former Kamloops Residential School. Over 540 radio stations participated in 2021, spanning different markets, regions, and formats.

A Day to Listen leveraged the power of radio to inspire people throughout Canada to move reconciliation forward in meaningful ways. The management, staff and hosts of JOY Radio are honoured to participate and encourage our listeners to reflect as we honour the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities.
