Ben Calhoun Talks About ‘Lift My Eyes’, Family, and Faith-Fuelled Music
Ben Calhoun, an award-winning singer, songwriter, and producer, is best known as the founder and lead vocalist of Citizen Way, a contemporary Christian music band. Ben grew up in a musical home, influenced by his pastor father and his mother’s love for classical composers like Chopin and Bach. His passion for music flourished at Judson University in Illinois, where he met future bandmates and established Darkroom Studios, producing for Stained Glass.
Citizen Way started in 2004 as The Least of These, with Ben and his brothers Joshua and David Blascoe. The band rebranded in 2012, achieving success in the CCM scene with hits like “Bulletproof” and “Should’ve Been Me.” Ben has toured with notable acts such as MercyMe, Newsboys, and Big Daddy Weave.
In 2026, Ben collaborated with Mission Aviation Fellowship to release “Lift My Eyes.” JOY Radio’s Hollie Taylor sat down with Ben to dive deeper into the motivation behind the MAF collaboration, his experience visiting the MAF site, his creative process when it comes to music, and how it is being a Christian today.
