This Wednesday, March 5th, marks the beginning of Lent for many Christians around the world. Lent is a 40-day season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving that starts on Ash Wednesday and concludes on Holy Thursday. It serves as a time of preparation to celebrate the Lord’s Resurrection on Easter. During Lent, we seek the Lord through prayer and by reading Sacred Scripture; we serve others by giving alms, and we practice self-control through fasting. We are called not only to abstain from luxuries during Lent but also to undergo a true inner transformation as we strive to follow Christ’s will more faithfully.

As we approach this glorious season, we can indulge in the sweet pleasures of Shrove Tuesday, also known as Fat Tuesday or Pancake Tuesday. Shrove Tuesday provides the last opportunity for many Christians to enjoy rich, fatty foods before the ritual fasting that accompanies Lent.
