Toronto’s new mayor has been busy in her first week at council.

Olivia Chow’s motion to declare gender-based violence and intimate partner violence an epidemic in the city was passed Thursday by Toronto City Council.

The declaration is calling on the provincial and federal governments to do the same.

Thirty other municipalities across the province, including Peel and Halton Regions, have made similar declarations.
