Pray for your Pastor: A little prayer can make a big difference
By Hollie Taylor, host of Good Company
As we reflect on Pastor Appreciation Month, one of my biggest takeaways from your messages about your incredible pastors is just how much time they spend praying for others!
You’ve shared stories of pastors who offered guidance when life got difficult, stood alongside you during special moments like weddings, baptisms, and baby dedications, and provided comfort and encouragement through seasons of grief. Through it all, they’ve continued to faithfully lead their congregations, week after week.
But it got me thinking: How often do we stop and pray for them?
Behind every Sunday sermon, hospital visit, pastoral conversation, and community outreach is someone who has devoted their life to serving others. Pastors, ministers, and priests carry responsibilities that many of us never see. They encourage others when they may be feeling discouraged themselves, offer strength when they are weary, and continually pour into the lives of the people they serve.
That’s why praying for your pastor matters.
Your Pastor needs prayer, too
It’s easy to think of pastors as the people who always have the answers, always have encouraging words, and always seem strong in their faith. But they’re human, too. They experience challenges, disappointments, exhaustion, and moments when they need encouragement just as much as anyone else.
Our prayers can make a difference.
Pray for their physical health and emotional well-being. Pray for wisdom as they make difficult decisions and lead their congregations. Pray for strength when ministry feels overwhelming, and for renewed joy in the calling God has placed on their hearts.
Don’t forget to pray for their families, too. Ministry often extends beyond church walls, and the support of loved ones plays an important role in a pastor’s life.
Most importantly, remember to thank God for the people who faithfully serve our churches and communities.
A simple way to say thank you
Sometimes, the most meaningful encouragement comes from simply letting someone know that their dedication has made a difference.
Maybe your pastor offered a word of encouragement at exactly the right moment. Perhaps they walked alongside your family through a difficult season, helped you grow in your faith, or made your church feel like home.
Those moments matter. And your pastor deserves to know that you appreciate them.
A simple thank-you, a heartfelt note, or a prayer can remind them that their work is making a lasting impact.
As we wrap up Pastor Appreciation Month, I want to encourage you to take a moment to pray for your pastor. Thank them for all they do, and let them know they’re appreciated.
Because those who spend their lives encouraging others deserve a little encouragement, too!
Let’s not wait for a special month or a designated day to remind us to lift up our pastors. Let’s make praying for them part of our regular routine, just as they faithfully pray for us.
They need our prayers, our encouragement, and our support all year long!
Uplifting devotionals, joyful stories, and faith-filled content for everyday life.
