Town of Oakville Workers on Strike
Unionized outside workers with the Town of Oakville are on strike.
The union, CUPE 136, representing 285 workers, went off the job at midnight.
The town says some of its facilities and public services are affected by the strike, and says it has plans in place to limit the disruption as much as possible and ensure that essential service delivery, and health and safety related matters are prioritized.
Community centres and arenas are closed in Oakville – along with washrooms in parks, leash free dog parks, and the field house at Bronte Athletic Park.
Recreation and culture rentals and programs are being cancelled.
Loose leaf collection has been suspended on residential roads but service will continue on primary and secondary roads.
Some other services offered by parks, and roads and works operations will also be at reduced capacity. The town notes Oakville Transit will continue to operate.
Negotiations on a new contract have been ongoing since April. The Town reached a deal with its inside workers last week.
