Mississauga residents will be heading to the polls to elect a new mayor.

Bonnie Crombie won the Ontario Liberal Leadership on Saturday, after three rounds of voting.

She says she plans to resign as Mississauga mayor early in the new year, first wanting to see through the city’s 2024 budget.

Crombie says Mississauga will continue to be her home, but says she is not yet sure if she will seek a seat in the provincial legislature.

Crombie was announced the winner, beating Nate Erskine-Smith, Yasir Naqvi and Ted Hsu on the third ballot during voting on Saturday.

On Sunday, Crombie met with the party’s provincial council and suggested the party raise $1 million by New Year’s Eve, and host a policy convention next year, ahead of a 2026 provincial election.
