Partial Clouds to View Eclipse

Thousands of people began pouring in to Niagara Falls over the weekend in preparation for today’s total solar eclipse.

Niagara is said to be on of the best spots to see things unfold as temporary darkness will sweep across parts of Canada, the United States, and Mexico.

People in all parts of Ontario will be able to witness the eclipse, but those in a path that includes Niagara Falls, Hamilton, Burlington and Kingston will witness totality.

The City of Niagara Falls declared a state of emergency in anticipation of a crowd of about a million people.

In Canada, the solar eclipse’s path of totality will pass through cities and towns in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland, plunging them into darkness for a few minutes as the Moon aligns perfectly between Earth and the Sun.

The “path of totality” makes it through southwestern Ontario around 3:15 pm and move east through Quebec and Atlantic Canada before exiting Newfoundland around 3:45 pm.

However, many Ontario residents hoping to catch a glimpse may be out of luck.

Environment Canada has cloudy skies in the forecast for areas stretching from Niagara to Kingston.

Metrolinx is running extra GO service on some lines to help accommodate traffic to and from Niagara Falls on the Lakeshore West Line:

-Three trips will depart Union Station for Niagara Falls in the morning at 9:02 a.m., 10:02 a.m., and 11:02 a.m.
-Four return trips will depart Niagara Falls that evening at 4:24 p.m., 4:54 p.m., 7:21 p.m., and 10:51 p.m.
-All Niagara trains will be 12 cars long to provide as much room as possible
