Decision on the Future of Peel Region Coming Soon

Premier Doug Ford says a decision on whether to split up Peel Region is coming “very, very soon.”

Peel Region is responsible for specific services, like paramedics, health programs and recycling, for Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon.

Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie says her city would save $1-billion over 10 years if it became independent.
Brampton’s Patrick Brown has said he could go along with the plan as well, however certain funding details would need to be worked out.
Ford said yesterday that while a final decision has not yet been made, he believes Mississauga and Brampton are large cities that can stand alone.
