Toronto Mayor John Tory Resigns

Toronto residents will soon have a new mayor after John Tory announced he would be stepping down.

Tory made the announcement on Friday, admitting to an inappropriate relationship with a staff member, which he called a “serious error in judgement.”

He did not state when his resignation would take effect and there is no official word yet on who will replace him temporarily until a by-election is held.

It is expected, however, that Deputy Mayor Jennifer McKelvie will fill the role on an interim basis.

Tory was first elected mayor in 2014.
