Former Toronto Councillor Running for Mayor
Toronto’s Mayoral race is starting to pick up.
Former councillor Ana Bailão tweeted this morning that she is in the running to replace John Tory after he stepped down last month.
Her tweet says she’s “running with a plan to fix the city’s services, build housing, and make life more affordable.”
A byelection is set for June 26th.
Bailão is a former deputy mayor and won a council seat three times before announcing that she would not be seeking re-election during last year’s municipal election.
Another former councillor, Giorgio Mammoliti, announced earlier this week he would also be filing nomination papers for the mayor’s chair.
The nomination period opens on April 3rd.
Deputy Mayor Jennifer McKelvie has assumed the powers and duties of the Mayor and has taken over day-to-day supervision of the Mayor’s office operations.
